The Department of Biotechnology was founded on March 27, 2007 as a superspeciality department to cater the need of ongoing demand for biotech professionals in medical research. Since its inception, the department has an unfailing commitment towards basic medical research to enhance the quality of human life. The department has research collaborations with a number of national and international institutes and universities. Several Ph.D. students, research assistants, project fellows, post-graduate students and under-graduate students are enrolled in various ongoing research projects in the frontal areas of biotechnology.

The major active research areas include Hypertension, Diabetic Mellitus, Carcinogenesis, Stroke, Spinal cord Injury, Alzheimer’s Disease and Regenerative Medicine. The department has advanced research laboratories which are equipped with state-of-the-art facilities such as: qRT-PCR, nanodrop, spectrophotometer, refrigerated centrifuges, DNA and protein gel electrophoresis systems, gel documentation system, laminar flow hoods, fluorescent microscopes (upright & inverted), surgical microscope etc.
